Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Portugal introduces the Go Green Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at environmental sustainability in partnership with Countisystems.
About Go Green
The Go Green Project is designed to repurpose unused electronic cards, such as ESN cards, transportation cards, and other similar items from international students. The project highlights ESN Portugal's commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
What is MERECE?
MERECE is a business movement for recycling cards with electronic components, initiated by Countisystems. It focuses on:
- Collecting unwanted cards.
- Shredding and recycling the material into street furniture.
- Planting trees to offset carbon emissions from card production.
Implementation Strategy
Local Section Involvement:
- Each section will set up a designated collection box for cards.
- Sections will advertise the collection drive to international students.
- Collected cards will be delivered to ESN Portugal during national events.
Why Go Green is Important
- Environmental Impact: Reduces waste by repurposing unused ESN cards.
- Sustainability: Promotes a culture of reuse and environmental responsibility within the ESN community.
- Reforestation: For every kilogram of card waste collected, a tree is planted.
